We’re experts in staffing, but you don’t need to be an expert to know that times are though and the job market is slow moving these days. GTR is connected with hundreds of companies throughout our region and we will work with you as your job search advocate to help you find your next job.
In the meantime, here are some ways you can expand your job search on your own. Most services listed are free to job seekers; all they require is some of your time.
JOB FAIRS
There are several job fairs hosted each month throughout Northeast Ohio. Companies who attend job fairs are likely actively hiring - the employers you want to get in front of. Most upcoming job fairs are posted in the local papers and online.
When you attend a job fair do your research beforehand so you know what companies will be there and map out your “plan of attack” before the event.
§ Talk to as many employers as possible – you never know who will have your next job opportunity
§ Walk up to each table with a smile on your face and a hand shake ready to share
§ Show interest when talking with the recruiter
§ Have a clean copy of your resume ready
§ Ask for a contact name and number before leaving the table
§ Follow up - There are numerous job seekers at the same event, be sure to stand out among the crowd so the company remembers your name
ONLINE NETWORKING
You can connect with just about anyone online. There are numerous online networking sites where you can connect with old colleagues, classmates and acquaintances. Just as helpful as attending networking events and spreading the word to family and friends of your job search, you can utilize online networking to do the same.
As a free service, the following websites allow you to set up an online profile and search for possible personal and professional contacts on the web. Once connected, you can ask for job referrals and leads to possible job opportunities. The more contacts you make the better your chances of finding a new job.
- Facebook.com
- LinkedIn.com
- MySpace.com
Many companies are also turning to online networking to find qualified candidates for their open positions. So get online and get connected!
